Wandering around

Hi everybody!

So I slept about 13 hours last night.I woke up at 11 am this morning. After a hearty breakfast of some orange juice and two slices of bread, I set out on a mission to find a phone. The address for the nearest boutique d'Orange (an electronics chain in France) was on rue Oberkampf, a couple of streets over. Okay I walked up and down that damn street and did not see any Orange store. I did find a tiny electronics store that sold them, and my french was tested as I attempted to explain that I needed a prepaid phone. Whether or not I paid a fair price for the phone is a different question. Anyway, I got back to my apartment and turned on the phone and saw that it was completely in German.  I'm sitting here like...what even. So I plugged in what it was saying to Google Translate and was able to switch the language that way.

Anyway, after that I then took the metro to the Latin Quarter and had lunch. I walked around by Pont Neuf and the Latin Quarter

I had this crazy lunch..it was a piece of toast with shrimp, cream cheese, cucumber, and grapefruit..served with a salad and bowl of gazpacho.

Also had my first glass of french wine!

After that I went to the area near Centre Pompidou and met with a friend for a drink...okay this was my first time in a bar and I had no clue what to order  so I had a beer and a pina colada. I also realized how bad my French was...I could not keep up with my friend at all! He called his friend, a girl who had studied at UVM and was doing an internship in France, to come and meet us. She was so much fun! And it did feel good to speak English. She invited her roommate to come with us and we went out for a late dinner. I had tartare du beouf, which is pretty much raw meat that came with fries and a salad..I didn't take a picture but it was delicious!

I did take a picture of Centre Pompidou, a modern art museum..I think I will go there tomorrow.

I should also mention what I did the latter half of yesterday. Other than taking two seperate naps, I walked around my neighborhood and explored a little bit.

And some of you will think this is SO TYPICAL OLIVIA but YES MY FIRST MEAL IN FRANCE WAS KOREAN FOOD.
I was starving and didn't know where to go and it was just staring at me like..come eat at me and I was like well, okay, I mean if you insist..

I ate Kimchi Chigae, a soup made from kimchi and other vegetables, I think there was some meat in there too...who cares it was delicious.

Also I asked for water and THIS IS WHAT I GOT

I would have laughed out loud if it weren't for the fact that I was awkwardly eating alone in this restaurant.

Anyway, it's midnight here and I still want to get in some studying before I go to bed.

I'll post within the next day or two!

Olivia
